Vision of the GISO Swimming Olympiad
The GISO Swimming Olympiad is designed to identify, nurture, and recognize swimming talent through a structured, scientific, and progressive skill assessment system. By providing every child with a clear pathway for improvement and competition, GISO aims to develop confident swimmers who embody discipline, perseverance, water safety, sportsmanship, physical fitness, and excellence both in and out of the pool.
How to Participate in the GISO Swimming Olympiad
Registration of Students
The GISO Swimming Olympiad is open to students aged 4 to 16 years, irrespective of the education board or curriculum followed by their school.
The Olympiad is conducted only through authorized GISO schools.
Any school or swimming academy may become an authorized GISO Swimming Olympiad Centre. No registration fee is charged from the institution to become an assessment centre.
Registered institutions receive the GISO Information Kit, Assessment Guidelines, Registration Forms, Assessment Criteria, Age Group Standards, and Assessment Schedule.
Institutions not yet registered with GISO may apply online through the official website or contact the GISO Support Team for registration.
Upon receiving the completed School Registration Form (SRF) and Student Registration Sheet (SRS), GISO will register the institution and generate a unique GISO Athlete ID for every participant.
Age Categories
The Swimming Olympiad is conducted in four age groups.

4–6 Years | Group A |
7–10 Years | Group B |
11–13 Years | Group C |
14–16 Years | Group D |
Students compete only within their respective age category.
Levels of the Swimming Olympiad
The GISO Swimming Olympiad consists of multiple progressive skill levels designed to develop swimmers step by step.
Level 1 – Foundation Skills
Level 2 – Fundamental Skills
Level 3 – Developing Swimmer
Level 4 – Performance Swimmer
Level 5 – Advanced Swimmer
Additional higher levels may be introduced as students’ progress through the GISO Athlete Development Pathway.
Students must successfully achieve the Advanced proficiency level in their current assessment before becoming eligible to attempt the next level.
Assessment Format
Unlike traditional Olympiads, the GISO Swimming Olympiad does not include any written examination.
Assessment is conducted entirely through practical skill evaluation in the swimming pool under the supervision of certified GISO Assessors.
Each assessment follows standardized evaluation criteria to ensure fairness, transparency, and consistency across all participating institutions.

The complexity of skills increases progressively with each level.
Performance Categories
Instead of pass or fail, every participant receives a performance classification based on the assessment score.
Beginner
The student demonstrates developing fundamental swimming skills and requires further guided practice.
Intermediate
The student performs most required skills with confidence and consistency while continuing to improve technical ability.
Advanced
The student demonstrates excellent technical proficiency, endurance, coordination, stroke efficiency, water confidence, and race awareness required for progression to the next assessment level.
Only students achieving the Advanced category are eligible to register for the subsequent GISO Swimming Olympiad Level.
Performance Report
Every participant receives a detailed GISO Swimming Performance Report, which includes:

- Individual Skill Ratings
- Athlete Progress Record
- Eligibility for Next Level
The report enables students, parents, coaches, and schools to monitor long-term development.
Championship Eligibility
The GISO Swimming Olympiad serves as the official qualification pathway for GISO Championships.
Only students who achieve the Advanced category in their respective assessment level become eligible to participate in GISO Championship events.
Qualified athletes may progress through:
- School Championship
- District Championship
- State Championship
- National Championship
- International Championship
Participation at each stage is subject to the qualification criteria prescribed by GISO.
Assessment Venue
Swimming Skill Assessments are conducted at the participating school’s swimming pool, or an authorized GISO Assessment Centre using standardized equipment and assessment procedures.
Assessments are conducted during school hours or on scheduled dates communicated by GISO.
Registration Fee
The Swimming Olympiad registration fee is announced annually by GISO.
The fee includes:
- Athlete Registration
- Practical Skill Assessment
- GISO Athlete ID
- Digital Performance Report
- Participation Certificate
- Level Certification (where applicable)
Schools may collect an additional administrative fee, if applicable, towards local assessment arrangements.
Certification
Every participant receives an official GISO Certificate indicating:
- Assessment Level
- Age Group
- Performance Category (Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced)
- Athlete ID
- Date of Assessment
Students qualifying at the Advanced level also receive eligibility to attempt the next GISO Swimming Olympiad Level.
Fair Assessment Policy
All assessments are conducted by trained GISO Assessors using standardized scoring rubrics. This ensures objectivity, consistency, and equal opportunity for every participant regardless of school or location.
